Buying Guide

Site heaters are rated in BTU or kW. To size correctly, calculate the volume of the space (length x width x height in metres) and allow approximately 35-50W per cubic metre for a well-insulated space, or 60-80W for an uninsulated site building. The JCB-SH70D (20kW) suits spaces up to 496m³, the JCB-SH140D (37kW) suits up to 800m³ and the JCB-SH215D (63kW) suits up to 1300m³. All three models run on diesel or kerosene, include thermostat control and target heat with a built-in flame cone. Diesel space heaters are direct-fired — they vent combustion gases into the heated space and are suitable only for very well-ventilated buildings or short-duration use. Always position outdoors or with adequate ventilation, away from flammable materials, and never use indoors in occupied living spaces.

Frequently Asked Questions

What size space heater do I need for a site building?

Calculate the volume of the space in cubic metres. Allow 50W per cubic metre for insulated spaces and up to 80W for uninsulated steel or timber site buildings. A 100 square metre site office with 3m ceilings (300m³) needs approximately 15-24kW of heating capacity — the 20kW JCB-SH70D covers this comfortably.

What fuel do JCB space heaters use?

All JCB space heaters in the current range run on diesel or kerosene. There are no LPG or propane models in the JCB Tools range. Both fuels deliver clean burns; kerosene is sometimes preferred for its slightly cleaner output.

Can JCB space heaters be used in enclosed spaces?

JCB space heaters are direct-fired diesel/kerosene units that vent combustion gases into the heated space. They require significant ventilation and are not suitable for occupied enclosed buildings without proper airflow. Use them in well-ventilated workshops, open-sided structures, or briefly in larger buildings while the space is unoccupied.
