Buying Guide

An impact driver is not a drill — it is a high-speed high-torque fastening tool. The internal hammering mechanism delivers rotational impacts at high speed, making it far more effective at driving long screws, coach bolts and self-tapping screws than a standard drill driver. The quarter-inch hex chuck accepts impact-rated screwdriver bits — always use impact-rated bits, not standard bits which can shatter under impact forces. Impact drivers are not designed for drilling holes — the impact mechanism does not suit drill bits and will produce poor results. For trade use: use an impact driver for all screwdriving, a combi drill for drilling. The JCB Pro 18V Impact Driver with 230Nm torque handles the heaviest fastening tasks.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between an impact driver and a combi drill?

An impact driver delivers high-torque rotational impacts for screwdriving and fastening — it is not designed for drilling. A combi drill combines drilling and screwdriving with optional hammer mode for masonry. For trade use, a combi drill and impact driver work together: drill with one, drive fixings with the other.

What bits do I use in an impact driver?

Always use impact-rated screwdriver bits in an impact driver. Standard bits can shatter under the impact forces. Impact bits are made from more flexible steel that absorbs the hammering without fracturing. They are marked with 'impact' or 'torsion' in the product description.

What is the torque output of the JCB Pro Impact Driver?

The JCB Pro 18V Compact Impact Driver delivers 230Nm of torque across four settings, sufficient for structural timber screws, long self-tapping fixings and most trade fastening applications.
