Buying Guide

Petrol engine replacement requires matching several specifications: output (hp or kW), shaft diameter, shaft length, rotation direction and mounting bolt pattern. An engine that is close but not exact will not fit or perform correctly. Four-stroke petrol engines are more fuel-efficient and require no oil-to-fuel mixing. For continuous operation in demanding conditions — pumps, generators and cement mixers — choose an engine rated for its continuous duty cycle, not just peak output. Electric start is a significant quality-of-life addition for engines used daily. Check the engine oil specification and change interval before running — new engines should have the break-in oil changed after the first 5-10 hours of use.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I find the right replacement petrol engine?

Note the original engine's output in hp or kW, the shaft diameter and length, the rotation direction (viewed from the shaft end), and the mounting bolt pattern. Match all specifications — even a slightly wrong shaft diameter prevents fitting.

What oil do JCB petrol engines use?

JCB petrol engines use standard four-stroke engine oil. The recommended grade is listed in the product manual — typically SAE 10W-30 for most conditions. Always check and top up oil before first use; engines are often supplied without oil.

How often should a petrol engine be serviced?

Change engine oil after the first 5-10 hours (break-in), then every 25-50 hours or annually. Clean or replace the air filter every 25 hours. Replace the spark plug annually or every 100 hours. Refer to the product manual for specific intervals.
