Expert Help & Advice

Sanding Sheets

JCB mesh sanding sheets are compatible with JCB orbital sanders and most standard 125mm random orbital sanders. The mesh design provides even material removal across the full sanding surface while allowing dust to pass through, keeping the surface cleaner and extending sanding sheet life. Available in multiple grit options for coarse material removal through to fine finishing. Use with dust extraction for cleaner working environments.

Buying Guide

Choosing the right grit is as important as the sander itself. Start with a coarser grit to remove material, scratches or old finish, then work progressively through finer grits to the final finish. Skipping grits leaves scratches that show under paint or varnish. For bare wood preparation before painting: 80 grit to remove milling marks, 120 to refine, 180 to finish. For bare wood before oiling or staining: finish at 220-240 for a smooth consistent surface. For flatting between coats of paint or varnish: 320-400 wet and dry. The JCB mesh sanding sheets allow dust to pass through the open mesh rather than loading the abrasive surface — this extends sheet life significantly.

Frequently Asked Questions

What grit sanding sheet should I use for wood before painting?

For bare wood preparation before painting, start with 80-100 grit to remove rough surfaces or old finish, progress to 120-150 to smooth, and finish with 180 before applying primer. Between coats of paint, use 240-320 to flat the surface lightly.

Are JCB sanding sheets compatible with other brands of orbital sander?

JCB mesh sanding sheets are 125mm diameter with standard hook-and-loop (Velcro) backing, compatible with all major brands of 125mm random orbital sander including Festool, Makita, Dewalt, Bosch and others.

Why do mesh sanding sheets last longer than paper discs?

The open mesh structure allows dust to pass through rather than accumulate on the abrasive surface. Paper disc abrasive clogs with dust, reducing cutting action and causing heat buildup. Mesh sheets stay cleaner for longer, maintaining cutting efficiency.
