Choosing the right car jack depends on the weight of the vehicle and the type of work you are doing. For passenger cars and light vans, a 2.5 or 3-tonne trolley jack handles most jobs comfortably — always check the vehicle's kerb weight and use a jack rated above it. Low-profile trolley jacks are essential for sports cars, kit cars and lowered vehicles with minimal ground clearance. Bottle jacks are more compact but require a flat, hard surface and are better suited for lifting at a specific point rather than rolling under the vehicle.
